APS Group wins Superdrug’s first-ever CSR Award

We’re thrilled to have been awarded the Superdrug CSR Award at the retailer’s annual supplier conference.

Having previously won Superdrug Agency of the Year in 2015, we are ecstatic that Superdrug’s marketing team has chosen APS Group for the CSR Award thanks to a recent project which has seen us transform Superdrug’s loyalty cards from plastic to paper.

By removing the PVC and mirror foiling from the loyalty cards, we’ve provided Superdrug with a more sustainable option and helped the brand streamline costs while also helping to reduce the cost to the planet as we all look to become eco-friendlier. We delivered the project just 15 days after the official sign-off and produced one million cards within three weeks – with a further 500,000 now in production.

Superdrug’s supplier conference, which took place in London last month, is a chance to celebrate recent work, highlight achievements and discuss strategy for the year ahead. There were over 30 winners across all award categories, including 90 nominees, with notable wins from organisations such as Unilever and Procter and Gamble.

Patrick Megarry, Head of Marketing at Superdrug, made a speech about the brand’s vision for sustainability and CSR before surprising us with the award win, which was presented to our very own Gavin Kyle, Superdrug’s Account Director here at APS Group.

Gavin said: “The CSR Award had been kept secret, so it came as a complete shock when we heard our name being called. It’s the first year for this category, which makes it all the more special to have won it.”

The award is an important milestone in our history with Superdrug who we’ve worked with since 2008. From in-store and POS marketing to the design, production and roll-out of creative campaigns, we’ve partnered on several fantastic projects over the last decade and look forward to continuing to deliver sustainable innovations in the future.

In partnership with Premier Paper, we’ve planted more than 260,000 trees under the scheme and captured 52,287 tonnes of carbon – the equivalent to 10.5 billion sheets of A4 paper!

In partnership with Premier Paper, we’ve planted more than 260,000 trees under the scheme and captured 52,287 tonnes of carbon – the equivalent to 10.5 billion sheets of A4 paper!

The trees we’ve planted will cleanse and purify our air, create homes for wildlife and help connect society with nature by getting people physically involved in the planting process. Our participation in the scheme has made a real difference to the environment and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

As supporters of the initiative, we’re invited along to an annual tree planting day. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the work the scheme does and really get stuck in. Even our clients and partners get involved and this year we were joined by the DVLA.

Joined by TV’s Julia Bradbury and the Outdoor Guide, we met our fellow tree planters at the Woodland Trust’s Heanor site in Derbyshire and were greeted with fresh breakfast sandwiches and hot coffees and teas. After a series of brief introductions, we took to the fields armed with spades, wellies and determination, despite the fresh November air!

The tree planting took place near Heanor in Derbyshire on the site of a former opencast mine, which has now been transformed into a haven for wildlife and people. The Woodland Trust plan to develop the site further, creating the Young People’s Forest – a giant classroom for children and young people aged 10-20; they’ll plant trees, learn about nature as well as design, deliver and take part in activities.

As the day came to an end the final number of trees that had been planted totalled an impressive 13,000. Amongst the saplings that were planted were maple, oak and silver birch, hawthorn and hazel – all of which are broadleaf trees native the UK.

A big thanks to Woodland Trust for having us along – we’ll see you next year!
